Stamping & Embossing
The two major types of stamps are rubber stamps and acrylic stamps. Rubber stamps are images carved or molded onto a sheet of rubber and usually affixed to a block. Acrylic stamps also called clear stamps or polymer stamps, are raised patterns with a clingy backing that can be temporarily fixed to an acrylic stamp block. Rubber stamps are often more durable than acrylic stamps, but acrylic stamps tend to be less expensive, and because they’re clear, it’s very easy to position them on your work surface and see exactly where the image will come from from out.
Embossing creates a raised impression on a piece of paper or other material. Using a press, or embossing machine, is an easy embossing technique that lets you create detailed, consistent designs. However, it can be more expensive and less versatile than other methods. Heat embossing uses rubber or acrylic stamps, embossing powder, and a heat gun to produce a raised, colored image. It takes a bit of skill but is very versatile since it can be done with any stamp. Dry embossing is a manual technique that makes use of an embossing stencil and stylus. It’s more labor-intensive than other methods but gives you a lot of control.
